Can someone explain these crochet instructions in plain english?

I guess you can say a beginner in crocheting with patterns. I have made three blankets but simply using a single crochet stitch throughout. I now want to try a pattern (it is a #411 Bernat Softee Baby Double Diamond Crochet Blanket if anyone is curious--says it's for beginners) and am totally lost with the instructions given (I know what the abbreviations mean, I guess I just haven't learned how to read them). Can someone interpret this set of instructions for me in the hopes that I will better be able to read the rest of my pattern?

It is a motif.... 1st rnd: Ch3 (counts as dc). [3 dc. (Ch2. 4 dc) 3 times] in ring. Ch 2. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

The ch 3 is supposedly a dc so do 3 dc and a ch 2, 4 dc ch 2 In other words you will have a total of 4 dc and a 2 ch between them This is what it will lok like with The "|" as a dc and the "-" as the chain but will be in a circle

It's all in the Diaper Bag

The baby is adorable; the outfit straight off the trendiest rack; the car seat is the safest money can buy…  All ready for a great outing with baby! Then you ask each other, "what about the change of clothes? What about a snack? What about diapers, and bottles, and blankets, and changing pad, and medicine, and… Thankfully the solution to all those parental worries comes in all shapes and sizes and looks genuinely chic.

Yes, it's the diaper bag. Diaper bags were once used as functioning items—they held all those necessary items. Lately, the lowly diaper bags stock has been rising, thanks in part to pregnant celebrities and parental stars. Instead of a drab old bag that screams, "I've got a snot nosed kid," there are a myriad of diaper bags that say, "I'm a parent, I've got it covered, and I look good doing it." But looks aren't everything…

On the inside, once we've ‘ooh-ed' and ‘ahh-ed' over that diaper bag-that-looks-like-a-trendy-Armani-handbag, it is evident that the simple bag has evolved. No longer is there a cavernous uni-space where your child's diaper rash cream (that exhorts "Do not ingest") rubs shoulders with your child's favorite snacks. There are pockets for diapers, pouches for wipes, places for food, nooks for phones, and crannies for mom's wallet. Lest we forget, there is also that extra handy changing pad slot for when your precious little child fills his or her drawers right at the wrong moment and wants it off NOW!

A downfall of the scientifically engineered diaper bag and all its pockets is the propensity to stockpile out of date items. You may think you have 4 extra diapers, but they won't help if they are size 2 and your child tots around in sneakers and size 6 Huggies. Other items that find semi-permanent homes are emergency outfits and blankets. Babies grow out of those outfits so quickly and blankets should be washed if they are being used on occasion. The lesson one should take from this—check diaper bags monthly for dirty laundry, stale cracker crumbs, and the occasional emergency diaper changes wrapped in those handy plastic bags.

Here are a few tips to keeping your diaper bag organized.

Leave a sealed package of wipes in the diaper bag.  Wipes kept in those travel cases will dry out. Ziploc bags work really well—the wipes will stay moist.
Snacks, snacks and more snacks. Preferably something that won't spoil—gold fish, cheerios, raisins and granola bars to name a few. Packing snacks in Tupperware containers is perfect because they won't leak and it keeps things from getting smashed around.
Disposable changing pads are great if you are in a public place.  You can just throw it away rather than inviting all kinds of germs into your diaper bag.
Always have a spare blanket on hand. They are great for the late night sleepy drive home or when baby has made an emergency mess. They are also great when you need to prop something up, keep the sun out or wipe up a bottle leak.  It's amazing how many uses you can find for a simple cotton blanket.
Keep an extra pacifier in your diaper bag.  Ziplocs or pacifier pods are great for keeping the lint away. Also consider some Tylenol, rash cream, sunscreen, hand sanitizer and a few plastic bags. You don't want to put dirty diapers or dirty clothes directly into your perfectly organized diaper bag.

You may look trendy to others judging your diaper bag.  What matters more is how you feel when this stylish accessory contains everything you need to feel like a prepared and organized parent.

My Personal Review On Philips AVENT Digital Video Baby Monitor, White

Good quality monitor with a couple of obsessions In general, I think this is a very good quality monitor: the image and sound are at least as good as other baby video monitors, the battery life of the parent unit is good, the range is pretty good ... Actually bought this summer and the view of the best and tried them both out and in most ways I found to be similar in performance.

The three obsessions I have with the monitor Avent (and why returns) 1) The base design makes it very hard to see what is essentially below it. For example, if you want a bird's eye view of your baby's crib, it will be difficult to handle. Since the camera can be mounted on the wall has to go on a shelf and the camera angle can not be directed low enough to make this work. For other types of applications that are not important but for us it's a big difference (to be able to see directly into the cradle versus looking through the bars of the cot). 2) The battery in the Amera (if not connected in the same runs on 4 AAA) is not very god. Nothing in our baby room for testing and the batteries lasted the whole night (created around 8 pm and when I checked in at 4 am he was dead.) I checked to make sure that fresh batteries, same story. If you are connecting does not matter but our son likes to grab and shake anything that looks like a rope, so having the camera near his crib with a cord is not a big deal. This is not necessarily a big problem for us (which is unavoidable), but there was nothing separating it from the summer and summer monitor wall mountable, there was no reason to spend an extra $ 20 on this. 3) This system is not expandable. Many monitors have the ability to link more than one camera to the parent unit itself, it does not currently have that capability.

As a second-time parent, I was especially concerned with attachment issues with my baby that might arise from being hospitalized. This book, written by the attachment-parent gurus helped to alieviate some of my fears as well as give tips for encouraging attachment.

After reading many reviews, I finally ordered 3 books about premature babies. This book was definetly the BEST. I read through it daily and it answered many questions. I especially recommend it if your baby had no problems and was only in the incubator to grow up.

My beautiful first grandson was born on Thanksgiving Day 2006, 1 day prior to being in the womb for 27 weeks, he weighted 2lbs 2ounces. My daughter-in-law's water broke when she was pregnant for only 25 weeks and she had be in the hospital, laying flat on her back for 2 1/2 weeks. The doctors had us prepared for the worst, however, my grandson who is now 8 weeks old is doing great and so far no major problems. He is still in the hospital but we expect that he will be home soon. The Premature Baby Book was great, I bought a copy for my daughter-in-law at a well known bookstore, but was unable to find a copy for me so I went on line and found it at AMAZON. This book answered all of the questions that we had while traveling this journey of having a premature infant in your life from infections to how to deal with nurses you are not sure that they have your childs best interest when taking care of them along with what to expect of your baby. I highly recommend the book because it sure gave us alot of peace. Since my children were full term babies, I am learning so much and having the pleasure of seeing our precious preemie thrive outside the womb and is doing so well. We are blessed that he is in a great hospital with wonderful staff and the book serves as a great guide and is very informative. If you or anyone you know has a premature baby, by all means give them this book, you will give them a peace of mind to know that almost all of their questions are answered in this book.

well, I would go with the babyliss one, but Sally Beauty Supply store has the same straightener only by a different company (jilbere) for a lot less money. i have seen the 2 straighteners and they look the same. It only costs like $70 compared to at least $130.

When the child continuously sleeps in one spot, the pressure from the mattress can cause Flat Head Syndrome.

Another reason that an infant can develop this condition is if the womb is constricted somehow. This happens often when there are twin pregnancies, if the baby is breach and becomes wedged within the womb, or if the mother's pelvis or uterus is very small. If, after six weeks or so, you notice that your baby is developing a flat area on her head, or if the original problem has not corrected itself, it is advisable to check with your child's pediatrician. In most cases, the pediatrician will refer the parents to a craniofacial specialist or pediatric neurosurgeon.

Getting a Diagnosis

If your child's condition is more than just the normal asymmetry, either a pediatric neurosurgeon or a craniofacial specialist will be able to tell you if action will need to be taken to treat your child. In most cases, the specialist will perform an x-ray of your child's skull to rule out a condition called Craniosynostosis. This is a condition that displays similar symptoms but requires different treatments.

Once the specialist has determined that your child suffers from Plagiocephaly, he will then recommend a course of action.

Treatment

The most common recommendation a specialist will make is reposition therapy. This is simply where you place your child in a different sleeping position and avoid putting pressure on the flat spot. Typically, this works best in children under six months old. After this age, it is difficult to control the way your child sleeps. Your specialist may also recommend a specially tailored sleeping helmet, specifically molded for your child's skull and will straighten out the shape of the head. Usually, reconstructive surgery is the very last resort and only if the case is extremely severe.

Preventing and Correcting Flat Head Syndrome

If your child needs reposition therapy, which is what most parents hope for, you will simply need to make sure your child doesn't continually sleep in the same position. Your specialist can tell you different ways to position your child so there will be a lower risk of SIDS while you are correcting the Flat Head Syndrome. If the child must wear a special helmet or band (called a cranial orthotic), they will probably have to wear it for 23 to 24 hours out of the day. Usually, this type of treatment continues for around six months at a time.

In order to try to prevent Flat Head Syndrome, there are a few things you can do. Do not place your child in the very same position every time they sleep. Make sure they are placing pressure on different areas rather than the same one over and over again. You may try to place your baby on her side to sleep as well as on her back. Limiting her time in a carrier or swing is advisable, as well. Switch from side to side when you are bottle or breast feeding and you should reduce the risk of this condition greatly.

While in most cases your efforts and those of the pediatric specialist will pay off, sometimes there will be a degree of flatness left. If the specialists determine that the amount of flatness is too small to cause problems, it will most likely be hidden when your child's hair grows.

This can be a scary condition, but overall, the success rate of correction is high. However, the earlier your child is treated, the better the chances will be of correction
